  • Cornerstone Jazz Jam XXXVII

The Cornerstone Jazz Jam takes place on the third Monday of every month, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, and is a pay-what-you-can event. A jazz jam is an informal session where musicians come together to play well-known jazz standards, improvise, and learn from one another in a welcoming, collaborative environment. Whether you’re an experienced player, just starting out, or simply love listening to live jazz, everyone is welcome. Bring your instrument, your curiosity, or just come and enjoy an evening of great music.

Take me out to the ball game! The Parade Hand will.be warming the crowd at the Guelph Royals home game in support of the Guelph Jazz Society Instrument Library.

Anyone who wants to be in the band can be. As always the Parade Band is a drop in group open to everyone. Sheet music for all our songs can be found here. Participants get 3 dree tickets, a hot dog and a drink, and a chance to help spread the word about the Society and the Instrument Library.

We’ll gather by the parking lot just prior to game time, warm up a bit, and then make out way to the stadium. We’ll play our music from the shades area within, and have a table set up where folks can ask questions about the Guelph Jazz Society and the Instrument Library in particular.

  • Last Night We Marched

Some things take time, and you never get them by rushing people. We’ve been at the Parade Band for just over a month now, and it had always been my hope that the band would shed the music stands and sprout legs and wander the lawns of Exhibition Park, and last night it finally happened.

People were just ready to do it, we knew one song well enough, things were feeling light hearted and optimistic, the light was just right? Who knows? The details are not important. The details don’t get you a bunch of buddies goofing around in the park. You had to be there.

But, we worked our way out of our little stand of trees into the sunlight and learned to take it first steps.
