Instrument Library

Instrument Catalogue – Borrowing Form – Donation Form

How It Works

Borrowing

Members of the Guelph Jazz Society who live in Guelph can:

  • Borrow instruments for free.
  • Keep the instrument as long as they want.
  • If… they promise return it when they’re done.

That’s it!

If you can afford to support the library financially we suggest making a one time donation of what L&M would charge for a single month’s rent ($25~80, instrument dependent). If you can spare some time we’d love to have you volunteer for the society.

You can view our current inventory of instruments here, at our library catalogue.

To borrow please email us at guelphjazzsociety@gmail.com with the subject line “Instrument Borrowing Request” followed by the name of the instrument and we’ll take it from there.

Donating/Through Lending

We accept donations of instruments and cash. If you give us your instrument to keep we can give you a tax receipt, if you want to maintain ownership of your instrument but have us lend it out to musicians for you we do that too.

If you would like to contribute to the Guelph Jazz Society Instrument Library please reach out to guelphjazzsociety@gmail.com.

Donated Instruments that are ready to go will be sanitized and made available to the lenders right away. Instruments in need of repair will be fixed up. Unplayable instruments will be used for spare parts.

Through Lending Instruments must be ready to play. We’ll collect them, sanitize them, and make them ready to lend. If you ever want them back let us know and we’ll arrange with the student to have them returned in a timely fashion.

Cash donations will be used to cover the cost of operating the library such as materials for repairs (corks, woodwind pads, valve oil, et al.), labour for completing specialised repairs, and purchasing of rare but in demand instruments (bass clarinet, baritone saxophone, etc.)

FAQ

Q: It’s actually free, forever?

A: Yes. The instruments in the library are all donated, and we rely entirely on donations to run this program. The people of Guelph (that’s you) have already paid for the library in advance of your borrowing. If you can, pay it forward!

Q: But, forever?

A: Yes. Just play the instrument, and if you decide you’re time with it is at an end please just bring it back so the next person can know the joys of music you did.

Q: Why didn’t my guitar/amp/electrical-thingy come with cables?

A: There’s a monster in Guelph that eats cables and it ate all of ours so we have no more to lend, sorry!

Q: Do I have to play jazz?

A: I ask myself that same question every night.
